Crown Car Park
Success with our campaign against the proposal to charge for parking

Many thanks to all who helped with the campaign to object to Shropshire Council’s proposed charge to park at the Crown Car Park. Thanks to Shropshire Cllr Malcolm Pate who supported us.
The official questionnaire was 3 booklets, each many pages long. Many people told us that they were put off by its complicated format and were unlikely to fill it in. The Society produced a one page version focussing on the Crown Car Park which many of our members distributed around the village. The Albrighton Business Forum also handed them out on the car park on the last Saturday of the consultation period.
Today Shropshire Council has published their Report which is to be discussed at a meeting of the Council next week on 17th January. The Report recommends that the Crown Car Park is moved from Band 6 Type Car Park (30p per hour) to Band 7 which is FREE.
So as long as the Council accepts the recommendations we will continue to have free parking. Thanks to everyone who helped but please keep fingers crossed until next week!
